TIME Magazine has recently published its new editorial ranking “World’s Greatest Places 2018.” Opened only one-and-a-half years ago, the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg’s new concert hall and iconic landmark, has made it into the list of the world’s most amazing places.

Situated in the heart of the port, the Elbphilharmonie is the landmark of Hamburg, the music city in Northern Germany. Ever since its grand opening in January 2017, the new concert hall with its unique architectural design has been at the centre of public attention. To date, more than 7 million people have enjoyed the panoramic view from the Plaza, the Elbphilharmonie’s public viewing platform, and about 1.5 million visitors have experienced concerts in the building’s spectacular halls, ranging from classical music, jazz and world music to avant-garde, electronic music and pop (www.elbphilharmonie.de).

The success story of the Elbphilharmonie has attracted considerable international attention. Set against this backdrop, US-based TIME Magazine has chosen the building from among 1,200 candidate places and included it in its list of “World’s Greatest Places 2018”. Featured in the “to visit” category alongside famous places such as the Tivoli in Copenhagen or the Golden Bridge in Ba Na Hills in Vietnam, the Elbphilharmonie is building its reputation as a landmark for Germany.

The list of candidate places was compiled by reporters, editors and industry expert from around the world and includes 100 destinations to experience in categories like “to visit”, “to stay” and “eat and drink”. The full list is available at http://time.com/collection/worlds-greatest-places-2018/.

When it comes to music, Hamburg plays an important role as a European tourist destination, and the opening of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg certainly contributed to this boom. Hamburg provides a wealth of music-related travel opportunities, ranging from great classical Hamburg composers such as Brahms to the Beatles as well as arguably the most vibrant live-music scene in Europe and music-festival highlights such as the MS Dockville Festival and Reeperbahn-Festival.
