In the focus: Sustainability and AI are the trends in 2023

From the 1st to the 5th of September, the world's largest trade fair for consumer electronics and home appliances opens its gates again.

One of the most important buzzwords this year is sustainability. In an era where sustainability and eco-friendly solutions are of paramount importance, this trade fair emerges as a pivotal point of groundbreaking technologies, visionary concepts, and inspiring ideas. More than 2000 exhibitors from 48 countries will unveil their highly innovative products that are not only shaping the future of the electronic industry, but also propelling the global shift towards a sustainable life at home.

The latest generation of household appliances is made of recyclable materials, energy-saving technologies and more than important: the production of high-tech products follows the idea of a circular economy. IFA is dedicating an entire sustainability village to this topic. It will be exciting to see which groundbreaking innovations Electrolux, LG, Miele, Haier and others will bring into the spotlight. Also intriguing to see how artificial intelligence and robotics will change the future way of live.

Industry-relevant lectures, shows and an e-sports area can also be found on the exhibition grounds.

Lenovo is expected to officially introduce the Legion Go Gaming Handheld at IFA. There are also rumors about the Lenovo AR Glasses and about Samsung presenting an OLED TV with 83 inches diagonal screen size. And it is going to be serious for Samsung and the Galaxy Z Fold: Honor is announcing to present the Mate V2 in the foldable sector – currently the thinnest and lightest device on the market worldwide. In addition, famous names such as Space X and Tesla will celebrate their IFA premiere.

And about 350 start-ups, the Innovation Hub IFA NEXT is bigger than ever before.

Attendees from over more than 130 countries gather to see the hottest startups in Europe. Parallel to this, the #Berlintechweek will take place for the first time as a meeting place for the European tech community. Hundreds of thousands of trade and fair visitors from around 150 countries are expected to visit the exhibition in the beginning of September.

Every exhibitor I´ve talked to they were be talked by their customers about the importance of sustainability. Be it energy usage from wash machines or all sorts of different things, more healthy living and so on. And the other one AI. It suddenly came from nowhere. Now everybody is an expert on it and I think in the next few years the way AI, we really have it as a content topic, where people talk about AI, the pros and cons. It will really find its way into the products in the next few years.

We have lots and lots of visitors from all over the world. And in fact, out of those 2059 exhibitors that I talked about, only 154 are German.

So IFA happens here in Germany is a real success story. We love everybody who comes to Berlin, but it's already a real international show and very relevant for the whole world

Looking into the future, I think the consumer and home electronics markets have always been good with at bringing new ideas to life innovate. We are and this is something you can see all over IFA  there are always sometimes only incremental changes, but they make sometimes a huge difference in our daily lives.

The ecosystem offered by Smart Things is exactly the right solution. It starts with a small socket switch, with which you can switch off devices at night, it goes through our household appliances like washing machines, dish washer, dryers, refrigerators and so on to the TV, which has now also an energy mode inside, which helps to save energy. But also the entire holistic energy management, i.e. electrification of the heat in the direction of the heat pump, Samsung has a solution.

Our biggest highlight this year at IFA is the IQ 700 oven with food detection. In the first step we offer the consumers 40 menus, which are automatically recongnized by the device. How does it work? For example, I take a lasagna or pizza, open the door, put it in the oven, close the door and the device automatically detects what is inside. Sets the time, the right temperature and I can still choose the individual degree of browning and then get the perfect result.
