PRATT & WHITNEY SHOWCASES POWERFUL F135 ENGINE DURING FARNBOROUGH AIRSHOW

B-roll footage, sound bites and press release from the Pratt & Whitney showcase at the Farnborough International Air Show.

Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. company, showcased the powerful F135 propulsion system, the powerplant for the fifth generation F-35 Lightning II aircraft, during the Farnborough International Air Show in the United Kingdom on July 12.

The F135 propulsion system is the world's most powerful fighter engine, producing more than 40,000 pounds of thrust for three different F-35 variants, including the F-35B short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft which will be operated by the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. The engine uses a unique lift fan at the center of the aircraft, roll posts in the wings, and a three bearing swivel nozzle at the rear of the aircraft, which work together to direct airflow downward to allow the aircraft to land vertically.
