Rolls-Royce Motor Cars today unveiled its first all-electric model called Spectre. The company claims it has created an entirely new breed of car - the electric super coupé – the first all-electric car in the super luxury automotive sector.
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor cars, says: “Today is the start of a bold new chapter not just for Rolls-Royce but for the automotive and luxury industries. Spectre is the first - and finest - super-luxury electric car ever built and represents the first step in delivering the promise I made to make Rolls-Royce a fully electric brand by 2030.”

The Rolls-Royce Chief Executive confirmed that over the next eight years the company will gradually electrify the entire Rolls-Royce portfolio.

He added, “Spectre is the beginning of Rolls-Royce’s bold electric future and a significant statement of intent. By 2024, we expect around twenty percent of the new cars we sell will be fully electric. By 2028 that figure will rise to seventy percent and by the end of this decade, all cars built by Rolls-Royce will be fully electric. This secures the future of this great institution and our long-term sustained global growth.”

He promised that Spectre will be a true Rolls-Royce first and an electric car second.

He continued, “We are taking the electric driving experience to an entirely new place. We have not only delivered bespoke features like the Starlight Doors, Illuminated Fascia and a new state-of-the-art ‘SPIRIT' multimedia interface but our engineers have trained Spectre to behave exactly as a Rolls-Royce should.”

The company has already seen significant advanced orders and the first Spectres will be delivered to customers in late 2023. It is still in final testing mode and has been subjected to more than 2.5 million kilometres of road trials– the equivalent of more than 400 years of use for a Rolls-Royce. It has a battery range of approximately 520 kilometres.

A number of selected Rolls-Royce clients have been given early previews of the new car and the CEO said reaction had been overwhelming; “Our clients are accustomed to the very best of everything. But during our previews, Spectre left them speechless. They love the car, they are excited by the advanced processing technology we have created and they are deeply impressed with what we call the Electric Super Coupé aesthetic. We are extremely happy with the number of orders we have already received.”

Headline statistics:
  • Expected range: 520 kilometres / 323 miles
  • Anticipated to achieve 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds / 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds
  • Expected to offer 900Nm of torque from its 430kW powertrain
  • Testing: 2.5 million kilometres of road trials so far
  • The aero-tuned Spirit of Ecstasy figurine on the bonnet/hood is the product of 830 hours of design modelling and wind tunnel testing
