The Alibaba Apsara Conference, showcasing frontier technologies through Data Intelligence.

Alibaba Group hosted the 2019 Apsara Conference on September 25-27 at the Yunqi Town in Hangzhou. With a theme of “Data Intelligence”, this year’s three-day conference focused on issues relating to the digital economy, showcasing a range of smart technologies including cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and autonomous driving - all from the perspective of developers.

The 2019 Apsara Conference had a total of 108 technology exhibition areas. More than 200 world-renowned scientists and 400 technology partners delivered over 1,000 technology-related keynote speeches, offering dynamic and comprehensive content for the audience who were accommodated in the impressive 320,000 sq ft venue. During the main panel held on the first day of the conference, Daniel Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group and Jeff Zhang, CTO of Alibaba Group and President of Alibaba Cloud both delivered speeches on the infrastructure, development and future trends of the digital economy.

The Conference also announced how Alibaba Cloud, the data intelligence backbone of the Alibaba Group, was collaborating with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to jointly develop the Hunger Map Live as part of an aim to support the world’s sustainable development and address global social problems with Chinese technologies. The Hunger Map Live not only focuses on food availability, but also monitors food security, nutrition, conflict, weather and a variety of macro-economic data, displaying different streams of information on one central platform. During the first phase of the initiative, the Hunger Map Live will cover over 90 key countries or regions as it tracks the hunger crisis threatening the whole world. This is one of the tools that will help to fulfil the United Nations’ sustainable development goal of achieving a world free of hunger by 2030.

In the next 20 years, Alibaba is committed to creating a technological dividend for the whole world,” said Jeff Zhang.
