Empty Number Plates On Cars In Dubai Mark Successful “1 Billion Meals” Campaign To Fight World Hunger

Story: - Vehicles sporting empty number plates have been spotted around the Emirate…

- Campaign created a stir and got people talking across the country before it was revealed that this was part of a global initiative to help fill empty plates and fight hunger as millions of ‘empty plates’ often going unnoticed – with 800 million people suffering daily from hunger around the world – and every year the hungry being overlooked by many

- To get people talking about the “Empty plates” people have around the world –  Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives created a major campaign where empty “blank” number plates were spotted on cars driving around streets and parked in malls across Dubai

- Campaign is part of the 1 Billion Meals initiative that aims to get 1 billion meals to underprivileged families across the Middle East, Africa and South Asia

- It was marked by the largest ever car registration plate auction, with more than 560 car registration number plates auctioned off in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, fetching sales of $44.6 million USD (AED 164 million), with one specific number plate being sold for a staggering $9.5million USD (the AA 8 Dubai plate) – becoming the world’s sixth most expensive license plate ever sold

Purpose was to highlight that every car with an empty plate serves as a reminder of the empty plates that truly matter around the world

Onlookers were left surprised and perplexed as a series of ‘blank’ or ‘empty registration number plates’ were seen on cars travelling along the streets of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The cars took to the roads and travelled past iconic landmarks, and parked up in shopping malls leaving many people wondering why this was happening.

This was later revealed that this had all been for a good cause, with it being part of a guerrilla marketing campaign to highlight the ‘empty plates’ that matter across the world – with 800 million people suffering from hunger every day, two billion people not having regular access to food, and millions going unnoticed.

The same uniquely numbered car number plates that people notice and pay attention to each day that were transformed into ‘empty plates’ were seen across popular hotspots and streets, and were designed to get people to notice the real empty plates around the world too. The campaign served as the driving force to get the nation talking about the empty plates that truly matter.

This was part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives in the United Arab Emirates, which launched the “1 Billion Meals” campaign, to get 1 billion meals to underprivileged families across the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.

The campaign was designed to draw attention to two major auctions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi; the Most Noble Number Charity Auctions saw affluent audiences bid for much-in-demand unique number plates, with the funds raised going to help stop hunger in its tracks around the world.

More than 560 car number plates were auctioned off during the campaign. One specific number plate was sold for a staggering $9.5million USD (AED 35 million) (the AA 8 Dubai plate), which is now the world’s sixth most expensive license plate ever sold. This follows last year’s auction, with the AA9 number plate being sold for a staggering $10.3 million USD (AED 38 million), making this the fifth most expensive license plate in the world.

Furthermore, a two-digit vehicle plate number 11 with code 2 sold for $1.36 million USD (AED 5 million); number 20 with code 2 for $1.15 million USD (AED 4.25 million); and number 99 with code 1 for $1.36 million USD (AED 5 million). What’s more a three-digit vehicle plate number 999 with code 2 sold for $462,000 USD (AED 1.7 million).

Every dirham raised in the auction will mean one meal provided. And in doing so, each plate sold in the auction has the power to fill millions of empty plates worldwide.

The entire proceeds of the auction will go to support the humanitarian goals of the initiative by providing a food safety net that extends from the UAE to those in need in 50 countries across the globe, and addressing the challenge of hunger that threatens the lives of 800 million people around the world – with the hungry going unnoticed by many.
